How LinkedIn handles the portrait post size

LinkedIn shows a single portrait image at 4:5 in the feed without cropping, which makes 1080 by 1350 pixels the largest a post image can appear at the column width. LinkedIn's Page specifications only publish the 1.91:1 landscape figure, so the portrait size is not an official recommendation. It is the shape the feed renders in full, and it is the same export you would post to Instagram and Facebook.

The desktop feed column runs about 550 pixels wide, so a 4:5 image occupies roughly 690 pixels of height against 290 for a landscape card. That is the entire appeal for text-heavy graphics: checklists, frameworks, quote cards and anything with more than one line of headline. Taller uploads such as 3:4 or 9:16 are trimmed back toward 4:5 in the feed, with the full picture available on click.

Document posts, the swipeable PDF carousels, are usually built at 1080 by 1350 as well, so one set of slides serves a LinkedIn document, an Instagram carousel and a Facebook album. Keep type at 40 pixels or larger in the source file. LinkedIn displays the image at roughly half its exported size on a computer and re-compresses it, and thin light type is what goes first.

Questions about LinkedIn portrait post sizes

  • Yes. A single image is shown at its own ratio up to 4:5, so a 1080 by 1350 export displays in full and takes far more screen than a landscape card. LinkedIn's published specifications only list 1200 by 627, but the feed renders 4:5 intact.

  • 1080 by 1350 pixels per page, exported as a PDF. It matches an Instagram carousel, so one design serves both, and it reads well in LinkedIn's document viewer on a phone. Square pages work too; landscape pages end up small and hard to read.
