Instagram post crop preview: see the crop before Instagram does.

Drop in a photo or a graphic and this tool shows how Instagram will frame it at every size that matters: 1080 by 1350 portrait, 1080 by 1080 square, 1080 by 566 landscape, 1080 by 1920 Story, and the narrower profile grid tile. Download the centered 4:5 version at full resolution.

Feed portrait

1080 x 1350. Tallest uncropped feed size.

Feed square

1080 x 1080. Center crop of the portrait.

Feed landscape

1080 x 566. Loses most of a tall image.

Story / Reel

1080 x 1920. UI covers top and bottom.

Profile grid tile

≈ 3:4. Edges of a 4:5 post are hidden.

Instagram post sizes in 2026

Feed posts accept ratios between 1.91:1 landscape and 4:5 portrait. Upload 1080 by 1350 for portrait, 1080 by 1080 for square and 1080 by 566 for landscape; Stories and Reels are 1080 by 1920. Anything taller than 4:5 is cropped on upload, and anything wider than 1.91:1 gets letterboxed.

The profile grid is the surface most people forget. Since 2025 it shows portrait 3:4 tiles, so a 4:5 post loses a thin strip on each side and a square post loses its top and bottom. This preview shows all five surfaces from one image so you can see every crop before you post.

Keeping logos and text inside the frame

The dashed safe area is roughly 80 pixels in from each edge of a 1080 wide canvas. Logos, headlines and calls to action inside it survive the grid tile crop, the feed and the rounded corners of Story previews. Anything outside it is at risk on at least one surface.

If a photo does not fit, resize it with padding instead of cropping. The image resizer does that in one step for every platform size; the grid planner shows how the result sits next to your other posts.

How to use it

  1. 01

Choose an image. It never leaves your device; the preview is drawn on a canvas in your browser.

  2. 02

Compare the five frames. Anything outside the highlighted safe area risks being cut in the grid.

  3. 03

Download the 1080 by 1350 crop, the tallest format that posts uncropped on every network.

Questions

  • 1080 by 1350 pixels (4:5) for feed posts, 1080 by 1080 for square, 1080 by 566 for landscape, and 1080 by 1920 (9:16) for Stories and Reels. 4:5 gets the most screen while still posting uncropped on Facebook, LinkedIn and Threads; Instagram alone also takes 3:4 (1080 by 1440).

  • Profile grid tiles are narrower than 4:5, so a strip on the left and right of a portrait post is hidden in the grid view. Keep logos and text inside the centered safe area shown in the preview.

  • Both. The image is center-cropped to 4:5 and scaled to exactly 1080 by 1350 pixels as a PNG, which is what Instagram displays at full quality.

  • No. The file is read locally and drawn on an HTML canvas. Nothing is sent to a server.
