One counter for every caption limit.

Paste a caption, bio, or post once and see how it fits on nine platforms at the same time: characters left, where the text gets cut behind a more link, and how many hashtags, mentions, emoji and links it carries. Emoji count as one character, the way the apps display them.

Fits where?

Limits count characters the way the platform displays them: an emoji is one.

Social media character limits in 2026

Every platform truncates differently, and the visible limit matters more than the hard one. The table below is what the counter checks against. Fold values are where the app hides the rest behind a more link; they vary slightly with screen width and line breaks.

How the counter counts

Platforms count what you see, not what is stored. A flag emoji is several code points but one character on screen, so this tool counts graphemes, the same way Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok display their counters. X is the exception and weights most emoji and CJK characters as two; if you post to X, keep a margin of a few characters.

Words, sentences and lines are useful for pacing: a caption with 60 words and one line will read as a block, the same caption in five lines with a hook first reads as a post. Pair this counter with the line break tool to fix the spacing once the length is right.

Counting one platform at a time

As an Instagram caption counter the number that matters is not 2,200 but 125. That is roughly where the feed cuts to a more link, so the hook, the offer and any question you want answered have to land in the first line and a half. The bio is a harder ceiling at 150 characters and counts line breaks and emoji as characters, which is why a bio that fits in a notes app often refuses to save in the app.

As a LinkedIn character counter there are two separate limits worth watching. A post stops at 3,000 characters but collapses at about 210, and the headline stops at 220 characters and shows in full everywhere your name appears, so it carries more weight per character than anything else on the profile. X is the strictest at 280 and the only platform here that weights most emoji and CJK characters as two, so leave a few characters of margin.

TikTok allows 4,000 characters but the caption sits over the video and competes with the interface, so treat anything past the first line as description rather than hook. Pinterest shows about 50 characters of a description before truncating, and a YouTube title is cut near 70 characters in search results even though the field accepts 100.

How to use it

  1. 01

Paste or type your text. Counts update as you write.

  2. 02

Scan the meters on the right. Amber means you are within ten percent of a limit; red means over.

  3. 03

Pick a platform in the fold preview to read exactly what shows before the more link, and put your hook there.

Questions

  • Instagram captions 2,200, Instagram bio 150, Threads 500, LinkedIn posts 3,000, Facebook posts 63,206, X posts 280 on a standard account, TikTok captions 4,000, Pinterest descriptions 500, YouTube titles 100, Bluesky 300. The tool lists the smaller fields too, such as alt text, headlines and pin titles.

  • Roughly 125 characters on Instagram, about 210 on LinkedIn, around 477 on Facebook desktop, and 70 characters of a YouTube title in search. The exact point depends on screen width and line breaks, so treat these as targets, not guarantees.

  • Platforms display and count an emoji as one visible character, even though it can be several code points internally. This counter uses grapheme counting so a flag or a skin-tone emoji counts once, matching what you see in the app. X is the exception: it weights most emoji as two.

  • No. Counting happens in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account.
