Bold, italic and script you can paste anywhere.

Instagram has no text formatting, but Unicode has whole alphabets that look like bold, italic, script and outline letters. Type a line and copy any of twenty styles straight into your bio, a caption, a comment, or a Threads post. Use it for a name or a single line; long passages in these styles are hard to read and are spelled out letter by letter by screen readers.

These are Unicode characters, not fonts, so they paste into any bio, caption, or comment. Letters without a match stay as typed. Keep it to a word or two: screen readers spell most of these out letter by letter.

How to write in italic on Instagram

Type your text in the box above, copy the Italic or Italic serif row, and paste it into your bio, a caption, or a comment. Instagram has no italic button and no formatting menu, so this is the only way to get italic letters into the app. The result is plain text, which is why it also works in the name field, in Threads, and in a DM.

The letters are Unicode characters that look italic rather than a style applied to normal letters. That is what lets them survive the paste, and it is also the catch: screen readers often announce them one letter at a time, and Instagram search does not match an italic word to its plain spelling. Use italic for a name or one line of emphasis and keep the rest of the text plain.

How Instagram fonts actually work

Instagram has no rich text. Every 'font' you see in a bio is a set of Unicode characters that happen to look like bold, italic or script letters: the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, small capitals from the phonetic alphabet, enclosed letters, and combining marks for strikethrough and underline. Because they are characters rather than styling, they paste into any field that accepts text.

This tool maps each letter and digit to its styled equivalent and leaves everything else alone. Bubble and squared styles exist only as capitals, small caps has no digits, and accented letters have no counterpart. That is why a few letters stay normal in some rows.

Where to use styled text, and where not to

Use it for a name, one bio line, or a single word of emphasis in a caption. Do not use it for full sentences: screen readers announce many of these as mathematical symbols letter by letter, some Android keyboards render older blocks as boxes, and search on Instagram does not match styled letters to plain ones, so a styled keyword in your bio is invisible to Instagram search.

For headlines on the image itself, real typography is the better route. Creobee makes finished text posts at 1080 by 1350, with headlines that stay crisp and readable on your brand colors.

How to use it

  1. 01

Type a headline, your name, or a bio line. Numbers work in most styles too.

  2. 02

Copy the style you like. It is plain text, so it pastes into any app.

  3. 03

Paste into Instagram. Preview it on a phone: a few of these render as boxes on very old devices.

Questions

  • Instagram does not let you pick a font, so these tools replace each letter with a Unicode character that happens to look bold, italic or script. Because it is a character and not a style, it survives copy and paste into a bio, caption, comment, or name field.

  • They can be. Screen readers read many of these as mathematical symbols, letter by letter, or skip them. Keep styled text to a word or two, never a full caption, and put the important message in plain letters.

  • Not every style covers every character. Bubble and squared styles only have capital letters, small caps has no numbers, and letters like รธ or รง have no styled equivalent. Anything without a match is left exactly as you typed it.

  • Type the text above and copy the Bold or Bold serif row, then paste it into your bio, caption, comment or name field. Instagram has no bold button, so these are Unicode letters that look bold and survive the paste. Keep bold to a headline or a name; a whole caption in bold is hard to read and screen readers spell it out letter by letter.

  • No. The conversion is a lookup table that runs in your browser. Nothing is stored or uploaded.
