What you give up is time on screen. In a 2-column phone feed a square takes two thirds the height of a 2:3 pin, so it passes faster. If the pin has a job to do, add a title band and make it 2:3. Pinterest recompresses on upload, so export JPEG at quality 85 or higher, or PNG for flat graphics, and stay under the 20 MB limit.
