Also accepted: 2:3, 1:1, 4:5 ratios, minimum 600 px wide. Pinterest recommends 2:3 at 1000 by 1500; shorter pins display in full, taller ones are truncated in the home feed.

How Pinterest handles the pin size

Pinterest's product specs recommend a 2:3 ratio, or 1000 by 1500 pixels, for a standard image pin, saved as PNG or JPEG. The cap is 20 MB uploading from a browser and 32 MB from the app. Pins sit in columns of one fixed width, so height is the only dimension you control, and a 2:3 pin stands 50 percent taller than a square at the same width.

That height has a ceiling. A pin taller than 2:3 is cut off in the home feed with a small indicator and only opens in full when someone taps it, so the payoff at the bottom of a 1000 by 2100 graphic is never seen by a scroller. Pinterest also re-encodes what you upload, so flat color and type at 48 pixels or larger hold up better than thin lettering over a photo.

The title and description are drawn below the image, which tempts people to leave the pin itself wordless. Pins travel without that text once someone saves them to their own board, so a short line saying what the pin is for earns its place. A 4:5 graphic is not wrong here and is never cropped, it is simply shorter than it could be: adding a title band above a 1080 by 1350 design makes a 1080 by 1620 pin at the same 2:3 shape, which is the quickest way to turn the posts Creobee makes into pins.

Questions about Pinterest pin sizes

  • 1000 by 1500 pixels at a 2:3 ratio, which is the size Pinterest's product specs recommend for a standard image pin. Save it as PNG or JPEG under 20 MB from a browser or 32 MB from the app. Larger files at the same ratio are scaled down.

  • Yes. In the home feed a taller pin is cut off at the bottom with a small indicator, and the full image appears only when someone opens it. Anything at 2:3 or shorter is shown end to end, which is why 1000 by 1500 is the practical maximum height.
