How Facebook handles the event cover size

1920 by 1005 pixels, a 1.91:1 shape, is the widely published size for a Facebook event cover and the same ratio as a link card. Facebook's help page on adding a cover photo to an event explains the steps but states no pixel size, so this figure comes from the event page layout rather than an official spec: the cover is drawn at 1.91:1 and the upload tool lets you reposition the image but not resize it.

In the events feed and on phones the cover is often shown closer to 16:9, and the event name, date and host can be drawn over the lower part of the image on some surfaces. That is why the safe zone leaves the bottom quarter clear. Treat the extreme left and right as expendable too, and put the key line in the upper centre, poster style.

The common mistake is reusing the 1080 by 1350 post that announced the event. A 1.91:1 slice taken from the middle of a 4:5 design cuts the headline in half and loses the date. Make the wide version first and derive the feed post from it, which is the cheaper direction to work in. A 1200 by 628 file is the same shape at lower resolution and looks soft on a large screen.

Questions about Facebook event cover sizes

  • 1920 by 1005 pixels at 1.91:1 is the commonly published size, and 1200 by 628 is the same shape smaller. Facebook's own help page does not state a pixel size; the event page renders the cover at 1.91:1 and only lets you reposition it after upload.

  • Not without redrawing it. The event cover is wide at 1.91:1, so a 4:5 portrait loses well over half its height to a centred crop and the headline usually goes with it. Build the wide version separately and put the key line in the upper centre.
