Size guideFacebook Group Cover
1640 x 856 pixels. Facebook's help page for group covers gives a recommended size of 1640 by 856 pixels, or a 1.9:1 ratio, and warns that people visiting the group on a phone may not see the whole image, so important information should stay out of the grey areas the upload tool shades.
Size guideLinkedIn Post Image
1200 x 627 pixels. LinkedIn's image specifications for Pages give 1200 by 627 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio, for custom Page post images, require anything uploaded to be more than 200 pixels wide, and cap files at 3 MB in PNG or JPEG.
Size guideOpen Graph Image
1200 x 630 pixels. The Open Graph protocol at ogp.me defines og:image along with og:image:width, og:image:height, og:image:type and og:image:alt, but recommends no pixel size whatsoever.

About the 1.91:1 ratio
1.91:1 is 1.91 units wide for every 1 tall. It is not a neat whole-number ratio; it is what you get when you divide 1200 by 628, the pixel size Facebook picked for link preview images, and 1200 by 630 is the same shape within a tenth of a percent. Meta later adopted 1.91:1 as the widest ratio Instagram accepts for a landscape feed post (1080 by 566 pixels).
Today it is the shape of almost every link preview on the web. Open Graph images at 1200 by 630 render as 1.91:1 cards on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, iMessage and WhatsApp, and X uses the same image for its large summary card at 2:1 with a small crop. Facebook and LinkedIn single-image ads default to 1.91:1, and Google Display ads at 1200 by 628 use it as a standard size.
Cropping 1.91:1 to 16:9 is nearly free: you lose 7 percent of the width. To 2:1 you lose 5 percent of the height. To 1:1 you keep 52 percent of the width, which is why a wide OG image with the logo in a corner loses it on square previews; keep the subject in the central square. Common sizes: 1200 by 628, 1200 by 630, 1080 by 566 and 1640 by 859 for a 2x export.
Questions about 1.91:1
1200 by 628 or 1200 by 630 for a link preview and Open Graph image, 1080 by 566 for the widest Instagram feed post, 1640 by 859 for a 2x export. To find the height for any width, divide the width by 1.91: 1500 wide is 785 tall.
For practical purposes, yes. 1200 by 628 works out to 1.911 and 1200 by 630 to 1.905; the difference is a single row of pixels top and bottom, invisible after the platform resizes the card. Facebook's documentation uses 630, many ad tools use 628. Either is accepted everywhere.
Because Facebook chose it for link previews and every other app that renders link cards (LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, iMessage, WhatsApp) adopted the same size, since websites already had 1200 by 630 images ready. There is no geometric reason; it is the shape the ecosystem settled on. X shows the same image at 2:1 with a small crop.
