LinkedIn post preview: see it before your followers do.

Add the image and the text of your next LinkedIn post and see it as a company page post, on a computer and on a phone: where see more cuts the text, how the feed fits the image, and anything to fix before you post. Made for launch posts and announcements, where the first lines carry the whole post.

We just launched. One line on what it does and who it is for goes here, then the reason to click.

Where see more cuts a LinkedIn post

LinkedIn shows the first few lines of a post and hides the rest behind see more: about three lines, which is roughly 210 characters on a computer and about 140 on a phone. Most people decide in those lines whether to read on, so they have to work alone. Lead with the news or the claim, not with a greeting or a hashtag.

Line breaks count against the same space. A post that opens with three one-word lines shows almost nothing before see more, so keep the first line full and put the white space after it. The preview cuts the text the way the feed does, so you can see exactly which words make it.

LinkedIn post images: what shows in the feed

A single image keeps its own shape anywhere between 1.91:1 landscape and 4:5 portrait. A 1080 by 1350 portrait takes about twice the height of a landscape card at the same width, which is why image-led posts use it. Anything taller is trimmed back toward 4:5 in the feed, and LinkedIn takes images more than 200 pixels wide and up to 3 MB.

The desktop feed column is only about 550 pixels wide, so type that reads on your monitor can be too small in the feed. Check the Computer view at its real width: if the smallest words are hard to read there, they are harder on a phone.

Checking a launch post before it goes out

A launch post on a company page gets one chance at the first lines and the image. Before it goes out, check that the first line names what launched and who it is for, that the image shows in full, that the link sits where people will find it, and that nothing important hides behind see more.

Launch day is one post; the weeks after it are what keep a page alive. Creobee writes and designs a week of posts at a time from one description of your business, for your LinkedIn page and Instagram, and on Autopilot it posts them for you.

How to use it

  1. 01

Choose the post's image and paste the post text. Add the page name, the follower count and the logo if you want the preview to look like your page.

  2. 02

Switch between Computer and Phone to see where see more cuts the text on each, and tap it to read the rest.

  3. 03

Read the checks under the preview: the image's shape, its size and the text's length. Fix anything flagged, then post.

Questions

  • About the first three lines: roughly 210 characters on a computer and about 140 on a phone. A line break ends a line early, so a post that opens with short lines shows fewer characters. The preview cuts the text the same way.

  • 3,000 characters for a post's text. The counter under the text box turns red past it.

  • Not a single image between 1.91:1 landscape and 4:5 portrait: it keeps its own shape. A taller image is trimmed back toward 4:5 in the feed, and the preview shows how much. Two or more images in one post become a collage of cropped tiles.

  • 1080 by 1350 pixels (4:5) when the image is the post, since it takes the most screen; 1200 by 627 (1.91:1) when it supports a longer text. LinkedIn takes images more than 200 pixels wide and up to 3 MB.

  • No. The preview is built in your browser from the file you choose. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and there is no account.
