How TikTok handles the profile picture size
TikTok's support article on adding a profile photo redirected to a page that could not be read when this guide was checked, and TikTok publishes no pixel recommendation we were able to confirm. 400 by 400 pixels is the widely used export: comfortably above the size the circle is drawn at on any phone, small enough to compress cleanly, and the same square other networks ask for.
The picture is a circle in every place it appears, so the corners of your square are never shown. It sits on the profile at a modest size, beside comments at around 24 pixels, and as the small spinning disc at the lower right of every video where the sound is credited. At that scale a logo mark or a face reads and a wordmark turns into a smudge, which is the usual reason a brand avatar fails.
Upload a square. TikTok crops a rectangle to a centered square that you can drag but not resize, so a wide logo loses its first and last letters before you get a say. TikTok also allows a profile video in place of the photo, and once one is set the still image stops showing. Use the same mark you use elsewhere, since most people meet the account through a shared video with only the avatar for context.
Questions about TikTok profile picture sizes
TikTok does not publish a recommended size. A 400 by 400 pixel square is the practical export: sharp when the photo is opened and safely above the size the circle is drawn at anywhere in the app. Keep the mark centered, because the corners are cropped away.
TikTok shows the photo as a circle cut from a centered square. A rectangle is squared off first, so a wide wordmark loses both ends before the circle even applies. Upload a square with roughly 10 percent clear space around the subject.
