About 1920 x 1080

1920 by 1080 is the size to use when an image will be seen on a screen rather than in a phone feed: a LinkedIn article cover, a slide, a webinar holding card, a video frame or a website hero. Full HD has been the delivery standard for so long that almost every player, projector and embed expects it, and 2.07 megapixels is still enough for a laptop display at normal viewing distance.

As a feed image it is the wrong shape. At the same column width a 16:9 frame is 45 percent of the height of a 4:5 post, so it occupies less than half the screen and scrolls past faster. Keep 1920 by 1080 for the places that are genuinely widescreen and crop a portrait version for the feed.

Questions

  • Yes. LinkedIn crops article covers to 16:9 and shows them across the full width of the article page, where 1920 pixels holds up on a high-density laptop screen. Keep the title clear of the bottom 15 percent, which the article card overlays in the feed.

  • About 2.07 megapixels: 1920 multiplied by 1080, divided by one million. That is roughly a fifth of what a current phone camera produces, so any photo taken in the last decade has enough resolution to fill a Full HD frame even after a heavy crop.
